Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the tragic Raipur road mishap involving labourers from Ganjam rose to eight, informed DGP Abhay, Saturday.
The accident occurred 3.30am Saturday, he informed.
He also informed that as per the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha Police have been in touch with their counterparts in Chhattisgarh regarding the unfortunate accident.
The seven injured persons are undergoing treatment in Raipur Medical College and Hospital and the post mortem of the deceased will be done soon.
DGP Abhay also informed that the remaining 59 labourers are safe. “An Odisha police team under SDPO Padmapur is rushing to Raipur to assist police authorities. Fifty nine remaining labourers are safe and under care of Raipur admin/police,” his tweet read.

In another tweet, he informed that he has talked to his counterpart in Chhattisgarh who has assured prompt investigation and requisite cooperation.
Notably, the ill-fated bus carrying labourers from Ganjam was on its way to Surat when the mishap occurred near Cherikhedi in Chhattisgarh.
