Starting from a single store in Berhampur that stocked the most fashionable garments to a one-stop destination now for men’s clothing and women’s style wear, Sridurga has emerged as a name that the people of Odisha trust. Born in a business family, Kotni Tirumal Kumar, managing director of Sridurga Retail Pvt Ltd, has maintained the customer-centric approach of the store. In a conversation with OrissaPOST, Kumar shares his entrepreneurial experience. Excerpts…

How has your journey been so far in this competitive market?

There is no smooth transition towards success without competition as it empowers your will and brings excitement to the mind making you explore new ideas. Similarly, while competition is a criterion for business growth, it is a must for business presence and testing your capabilities.

As the garment industry is surging, what is your USP?

Over 50 years have passed since Sridurga started from Berhampur. In the last 10 years, we have opened two stores in Bhubaneswar. It is simply the love and trust of our customers towards us. Similarly, we provide customers with trending styles, unique designs, quality products and services. Sridurga has almost all types of clothing of different designs and brands for men, women and kids as well as affordable home furnishings. Our speciality is best quality unique saree collections as we source them from all over India and make them available in all our stores at reasonable price range.

What are your expansion plans?

Expansion is imperative in order to assert a presence in the highly-competitive market and to maintain the status of a popular retail store. This year we have planned to open retail stores and outlets in major cities of Odisha including Bhubaneswar and also in Andhra Pradesh. By opening branches in all major cities of the country, we hope to expand our brand presence across India.

How important is customer satisfaction?

For us, the customer is God. So we are always committed to fulfilling our responsibilities towards them. Customer satisfaction is a key part in this line of work. According to their preferences and demands, we prioritise transparent service and provide quality products at reasonable prices. One satisfied customer will bring 11 new customers eventually adding to your business.

Are offers required to survive in business?

Manufacturers announce offers through us from time to time even if there is no requirement. As a result, the offers bring both the customer and the company closer together. This also increases the transactions and customers’ needs can be fulfilled through the offers.

What about new products and offers this season?

We especially focus on seasonal business. A wide range of new and designer products for brides, grooms and families are being made available as the wedding season rolls on. Especially in this season, we have given more emphasis on new trending designs of sarees, lehengas, salwar suits, sherwanis and kurtas. Also, keeping in view the wedding season, a special offer called ‘prestige’ has been launched. Through this offer, the customer can get 10% special discount for the year and other benefits on the purchase billing.

What would you say to aspiring entrepreneurs?

Retail business is always good. Today’s youth do not have the attitude of tolerance and hard work. But if you work hard, you will get success in business. Especially before starting a business, one requires skilled and experienced human resources, hard work, dedication and patience.
