Nabarangpur/ Kosagumuda: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik has promised farm loan waiver and solar pumps if his party is voted to power.
Speaking at a farmers’ convention at Kosagumuda mini stadium here Sunday, the Congress leader also promised to provide pension of Rs 10,000, a solar pump along with financial aid to each farmer for five years.
He also said that if Congress is voted to power, it will make girls’ primary education and higher education courses like medical and engineering free.
Nabarangpur is producing paddy, sugarcane and corn but there is no sugar or corn factory in the district, Patnaik said, adding that the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD)had done nothing for the state and is claiming that the party is doing a great job for the state.
Attacking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, he said that the CM had forgotten the promise he had made to give 35 per cent irrigation facilities in each block.
The BJD failed to set up a large irrigation project in the state, the Congress leader said and highlighted the Kunduli gangrape issue and asked why no one had been arrested till date. He also criticised the BJD’s farmers’ convention in Delhi, saying that the party members had visited Delhi to have a picnic.
Attacking the BJP-led Central government, Patnaik said the Modi government had helped the industrialists through demonetisation, which was initially called for control over black money.
“PM Modi had promised to give Rs 15 lakh to each countrymen. Following this people opened bank accounts by depositing Rs 500, but the banks have deducted money from their accounts as no transaction was done.” Patnaik Said.
Former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi said farmers were forced to wait for seven days at paddy mandis to sell the paddy. Farm loans will be waived if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister, Majhi added.
