Open transformer poses threat to commuters in Bamra

Bamra:  An open transformer poses threat to the lives of residents of Kutarimal village under Bamra block in Sambalpur district, reports said.

Despite the danger lurking on them, villagers, both bikers and pedestrians have no option but to pass under the transformer.

“We have little choice but to go under the transformer as it’s the only road that connects our village to other areas. But the possibility of any hazards cannot be ruled out. Whenever we pass under the transformer, we pass it praying god,” some villagers said.

According to reports, a transformer is placed over the road with two poles on both sides of it. The transformer is also not covered with any barbed wire to avoid accidental contact of human beings. Everyday people, including children risk their lives to go under this transformer.  Recently a ‘Krushak Sampark Mela’ was organised near the transformer. Hundreds of farmers congregated at the mela spot and they were seen crossing the road with fear.

The villagers have demanded steps to get the transformer covered to avoid any mishap.

WESCO’s Bamra section junior engineer said there was no provision of boundary wall or any protective coverage at the time of installation.

“However, I will visit the spot and then only take steps in this regard,” he added.
