Bhubaneswar, August 21: In view of inordinate delay in curriculum formation, the state government has initiated a process to offer Bachelors of Arts (BA) and Masters of Arts (MA) courses in the Orissa State Open University (OSOU) with the syllabus of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
The higher education department has earlier decided to launch operations of OSOU from the current academic session. The department has asked various autonomous colleges to seek regional centres of OSOU in their respective institutions whereas its headquarters will operate from Sambalpur.
The officials, however, have failed to come up with a new curriculum within the stipulated time for introduction of different diploma, masters, bachelors and certificate courses at OSUS from this academic session.
“We have very little time to frame new curriculum for the distant learning courses as we cannot risk any loopholes in the process. Hence, we have come up with a plan to seek help from IGNOU,” said a higher education department official.
The department has recently urged IGNOU, New Delhi, for cooperation in sharing its syllabus with OSOU. “In furthering the objectives of OSOU, it shall strive for cooperation with IGNOU and follow the education norms and standards prescribed by it for open learning system,” wrote higher education department secretary GK Dhal to IGNOU vice chancellor N Rao.
“OSOU desires to start BA and MA from the academic session 2015-16. We propose to use the study material prepared by IGNOU for the programmes,” stated Dhal in his letter.
