Lakhanpur: The test run of the fourth unit boiler of IB thermal project of Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) at Banharpali in Jharsuguda district is scheduled to be conducted Sunday, a press release said.
During the operation, a high-pressured air jet will get released, producing a deafening sound. The test will be conducted every day from 6 am to 9.30 pm and it will run for a month, it said.
During the period, the air will be released for 10 times at a gap of every one-and-a-half hour. At the time of release of high-pressured air jet, the sound it will produce will have an impact in the locality, the release said.
The OPGC authorities have already informed the nearby villagers and public representatives and sought their cooperation.
The sound will be so intense that locals have been advised to put their hands on their ears whenever they hear the sound.
They have also been advised to take care of their domestic animals as there is possibility of the animals getting terrified at this sound.
A siren will go off for 60 seconds before the release of the air to make the people alert, the release said.
The power plant will have a capacity of 1320 MW (2X660MW) which shall be operable by the end of 2018 as per sources.
“Coal shall be sourced from the nearby mines of MCL till OPGC’s own captive mine becomes operational. Manoharpur and Dip side Manoharpur coal mines allocated to OPGC by Ministry of Coal … with a reserve of approximately 530 MMT”
The plant is projected to replenish the dearth of power and provide for other necessary amenities.
