Bhubaneswar: A revenue inspector (RI) of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) had to pay heavily for collecting twigs from a tree uprooted during cyclone Fani. Sources said he has been suspended from service for the offence by the OPTCL director (HR)
In the aftermath of cyclone Fani during which thousands of trees had been uprooted, roads and lanes had been blocked. The debris of these felled trees can still be seen in many areas of the city and they are causing huge inconvenience to the localites.
In an effort to speeding up the cleaning process, the government had earlier announced that parts of the trees could be used as firewood and those wishing to do so can take them.
Kumar had also collected some twigs from a tree which had been uprooted inside OPTCL colony premises. He had then no idea that he will have to face suspension for such an act. But he has been hauled up and disciplined.
