Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) Sunday on its 35th foundation day here at Biju Patnaik Energy Park in Khandagiri.
To commemorate the occasion OREDA signed MoUs with IIT-Bhubaneswar; Aviation Research Centre, Charbatia; National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) Nagpur, Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM) and DMF Keonjhar.
Under the MoUs, IIT-Bhubaneswar will receive SNA-Institution and cooperation in technical support, meanwhile NEERI will be assisted for the development of Biju Patnaik Energy Park and OLM and DMF will be introduced to renewable energy. The ARC will be provided with a 2.5 MW solar power plant.
A three-day workshop-cum-exhibition was also organised at the park in the presence of Badri Narayan Patra, Minister for Science and Technology, Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma secretary of Science and Technology Department and Roopa Mishra, Chief Executive at OREDA
“Due to vast environmental changes and global warming, a day will come when usual sources of conventional energy like thermal and hydro energy will be exhausted. Now the time has come for the leaders of the world to bring out certain solutions to such environmental changes through mutual participations,” Patra said.
Adding to this Roopa Mishra said that OREDA will have to take a new role in reviving the energy sector of Odisha. “While OREDA has taken care of many projects like providing 0.5 pumps to small and marginal farmers under Soura Jalanidhi Scheme, applying net metering scheme for rooftop solar penetration in consumer sectors, many other projects are underway for the improvement of livelihood in rural areas.”
