Bhubaneswar, June 14: The gold-hungry Orissa karatekas continued their dominant run as they clinched nine gold medals in the third and concluding day of the VIth All India Karate Championship at Utkal Karate School here Saturday.
Orissa finished first in the medals tally and were followed by Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.
Anupama Swain (below 50kg women’s kumite), Krushna Chandra Maharana (below 50kg men’s kumite), Dilip Kumar Jena (below 55kg men’s kumite,), Chinmayee Bhuyan (below 55kg women’s kumite), Biskash Digal (below 67kg men’s kumite), Anuradha Patra (below 67kg women’s kumite) and Tofan Baitya (below 75kg men’s kumite) bagged gold medals.
The women’s team kata title was bagged by Rourkela while Angul won the men’s team kata crown.
BMC mayor Anant Narayan Jena, Bhubaneswar North MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and Bhubaneswar Central MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty were present as dignitaries and distributed the prizes.
