Bhubaneswar, August 16: Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) posted an imposing target of 441 runs against Orissa on the first day of their two-day match of the Buchi Babu Invitational cricket tournament at Chennai, Sunday.
Opting to bat first, TNCA rode on the brilliant centuries of B Indrajith (127, 116b, 7×4, 2×6), Kaushik Gandhi (100 n o, 169b, 11×4) and R Sathis (102 n o, 70b, 8×4, 3×6) to notch up 441 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 90 overs.
Orissa bowlers started well, by taking three quick wickets. But thereafter, three effective partnerships by the Tamil Nadu batsmen kept the Orissa bowlers at bay. Basant Mohanty (2/59) was the pick of the bowlers, while Alok Sahoo, Jayant Behera and Govind Podder captured one wicket each. All the bowlers bowled well in patches, but it had little impact on the rampaging middle order batsmen of Tamil Nadu.
