Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Orissa thrashed Uttar Pradesh 45-5 in a one-sided match of the All India Junior National Rugby Championships which got underway at the Kalinga Stadium here Saturday.
Gyana Ranjan Prusty scored three tries, while Dharmananda Bhoi, Sanjay Biswal, Alekha Murmu and Laxman Soren had one each. Budhadeb Pradhan had three convertions while Ajit Kumar Hansdah had two.
In other matches, West Bengal trounced Andhra Pradesh 52-0, while Delhi got the better of Tamil Nadu 26-0. Maharashtra prevailed over Punjab 39-0.

Suna Santa will be Orissa’s only representative to take part in National Sub-junior Ranking archery championships at Sonepat, September 24-28. Suna will participate in the recurve event. “Suna will take part in a national competition for the second time. There is every possibility that he will have achieve a podium finish,” his coach Rupesh Singh stated Tuesday.
KIIT qualify
KIIT University qualified from East Zone for the National Inter-University national tennis tournament after registering two consecutive victories in as many matches here Friday. KIIT blanked Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla University and VBS Purvancal University, Jaunpur by identical 2-0 margins. In the first singles of the second tie, Aayushi Chouhan spanked Roli Upadhyay 6-0, 6-0 while Alka Yadav triumphed over Priya Singh by the same score.

Four players are sharing the joint top spot in the boys’ category with three points each after the end of the third round of the State Schools’ Chess Championship organised by Bhubaneswar Schools’ Sports Association at Janakalyan High School at Jajpur, Saturday. They are Subhasis Barik, Srinibas Mishra, Diptiranjan Nayak and sajan Nayak.
In the girls’ segment, Rutumbara Bidhar, Sweta Senapati and Anantyoya Chatterjee are sharing the top spot with three points each. Sixty eight players from eight districts are participating in this two-day Swiss tournament.
