Orissa eves enter semifinals

Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: Riding on a brace each by Pinki Bompal Magar and Pyari Xaxa, defending champions Orissa thrashed Bengal 4-0 in a league match to enter the semifinals of the women’s football event in the National Games at Koachi, Tuesday.

Orissa dominated the match from the start. Pinki opened the account in the 21st minute and the team maintained the 1-0 lead during the lemon break.

In the second half, Orissa players were more aggressive and added three more goals. Pinki went on to score her second goal in the 50th minute. Pyari Xaxa found the back of the net in the 80th minute. She struck her second one in the 87th minute to finish the rout.

Orissa entered the round of four with a total of eight points with two victories from two matches.

In other sports, Orissa men’s kho kho team lost their last match against Andhra Pradesh 9-10, while the women’s kho kho team beat Andhra 12-11 at Tiruvanathapuram.

At Alleppey, rowers Sanjukta Dung Dung , Meena Madhuri Toppo, Manjula Xess and Pricila Baxla qualified for the final.
