Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Wednesday sought a reply from State Election Commission (SEC) and the Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra through a notice served in connection with writ petitions filed in the court for conduct of civic body elections.
In the petitions filed earlier, it was appealed that High Court should direct the state government for conducting civic polls sooner.
Hearing the petitions in the morning, the High Court asked senior bureaucrats concerned to furnish their replies within the next four weeks, senior advocate Pitambar Acharya informed.

According to Acharya, three writ petitions were filed in the court requesting conduct of polls in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
Former bureaucrat Prasanna Mishra from Bhubaneswar, senior BJP leader Samir Dey from Cuttack and BJP MLA Jayant Sarangi from Puri town had moved the court, Acharya added.
It is pertinent to mention, elections to urban local bodies in the state have not been conducted since 2018 due to Covid-19 outbreak.
