Orissa Police waltz into semifinals

Cuttack, July 11: Orissa Police cruised into the semifinals of the FAO Women’s League after blanking Radha Gobinda Club 2-0 in their final league match at the Bidanasi Ground here Saturday. This was Orissa Police’s third win on the trot and they finished on top of Group-B with nine points to qualify for the semis.
With the team comprising a number of current state players, Orissa Police dominated the match having 80 per cent ball possession. Jabamani Soren opened the account in the 14th minute while Sakina Nisha was the other scorer in the 28th minute. In the second session the match became a drab show.
Disappointing show
Orissa players ended on a disappointing note in the 42nd National Women’s Challenger chess tournament, which concluded at Mumbai, Saturday.
WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty lost to WGM Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal in the 11th and concluding round to finish joint fifth with 6.5 points. Saina Salonika played out a draw with WFM Tarini Goyal and finished joint sixth with six points. Rutumbara Bidhar finished joint seventh on 5.5 points after losing to Potluzi Saye Sreeza of Andhra Pradesh.

APN Taekwondo Academy, Cuttack named the boys’ and the girls’ teams, Saturday, for the U-14 state level Taekwondo Championship at Keonjhar starting July 12.
