Bhubaneswar, August 16: Despite a hundred run partnership between opener Girija Rout and Natraj Behera, Orissa suffered a humiliating 141 runs defeat against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on the second day of their two-day long Buchi Babu Invitational cricket tournament at Chennai, Monday.

Chasing a huge victory target of 442, Orissa batters could manage only 300 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 90 overs.

Both the openers of the visiting team made a strong start and added 110 runs in 29.5 overs raising a ray of hope. Natraj (66) scored a brilliant half century before making his way to the pavilion. After the departure of Natraj hardly any partnership flourished. Girija (95, 198b, 10×4) fought a lone battle, but missed out on a deserving century. All other batsmen of Orissa could not contribute anything substantial.

Rahil Saha was the pick of the bowler for the hosts snaring a scalp of six wickets. M Rangarajan also bowled well to capture two wickets. Orissa will play their next match against Haryana August 20.

Brief scores: TNCA 441/5 bt Orissa 300/8 (Girija Rout 95, Natraj Behera 66; Rahil Saha 6/55) by 141 runs.
