ORMAS signs 13 MoUs for skill devpt training

Bhubaneswar: The chief executive officer (CEO) of Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) Poonam T Guha and the national heads of 10 project implementing agencies (PIAs) signed 13 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) here Thursday.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik and principal secretary of the department Sushil Kumar Lohani. The pact is part of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), a scheme to provide free residential skill development training and placement to 17,272 unemployed rural youth in various trades. The total project outlay is estimated to be Rs 126 crore, a statement said.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Naik said, “ORMAS has been a pioneer in the domain of skill development training. It has provided a platform to the rural youth of Odisha to break the shackles of poverty and earn their livelihoods independently.” Lohani said, “Collaboration with the PIAs will help in achieving a greater goal of equipping the rural youth with required employable skills to transform their socio-economic plight.”
