OSCPCR directs probe in minor’s torture case by actress Riya Dey

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has taken suo moto cognizance regarding the allegation of torture levelled against actress Riya Dey by her domestic help.

The OSCPCR has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar, Khurda District Labour Officer and District Child Protection Officer to conduct a probe into the allegations and submit a report by July 25.

The OSCPCR has asked the above-said officials to submit detail information regarding the age, educational status and health condition of the victim in the probe report.

It also asked the Khurda District Labour Officer and District Child Protection Officer to take steps for the rehabilitation of the victim in accordance with the law.

The domestic help, in her complaint, alleged that the actor and her husband subjected her to domestic violence. The couple often locked her in their house at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack besides physically and mentally torturing her. Riya’s husband even hit her with beer bottle in inebriated condition, she alleged.

However, the victim managed to escape from Dey’s house and come to the Capital city here.

Subsequently, the victim was rescued by the Child Line. A complaint in this regard was lodged with Chandrasekharpur police station. Basing upon the complaint, Chandrasekharpur police registered a case against the actress and her husband. The case was later transferred to Bidanasi police in Cuttack.

Speaking to media, Additional DCP of Commissionerate Police Anil Mishra said a case has been registered against Riya and Sunil under various charges. The police will also record the victim’s statement, he added.

Monday, Riya’s husband had filed a complaint at Bidanasi police station stating that their caretaker had gone missing. The police would now investigate both cases simultaneously, the sources said.
