Bhadrak: After a signature campaign and launching of an awareness vehicle, several organisations Sunday took out a bike rally demanding a medical college and hospital in Bhadrak.
The rally was taken out on a day when Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram inaugurated the new building of the railway station and other facilities.
The rally was led by Pandit Sangram Acharya, president of the Bhadrak Medical College Sangrami Sena. As the rally proceeded through the town locals and intellectuals gradually joined it.
Over 30 outfits are supporting the cause while Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti has been carrying out a campaign throughout the district.
Meanwhile, the signature campaign at Babat Chhak entered the 13th day Sunday while road-side meetings are being staged.
The outfits lambasted the state and central governments for ‘neglecting’ the district in healthcare sector. They had earlier submitted memoranda to the Prime Minister, the Union health minister and the Chief Minister.
In the memoranda, intellectuals, students and elderly citizens pointed out that over 30 lakh people from various parts of Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Keonjhar districts will benefit if the medical college and hospital is set up in Bhadrak.
The outfits supporting the cause were Rotary Club, Sahid Bhagat Sena, Nagarika Samaj, UD Group, Gopabandhu Foundation, Tyagbhumi Sammelan, Netaji Subash Bahini, Tihidi Yuba Manch, Yuba Bahini, Biju Smruti Committee, Jagrat Sena and Utsarg.
