Nimapara: Traffic came to a grinding halt for over two hours at Chari Chakk Square here Wednesday morning with hundreds of villagers of Bansipur Debipatna under Niali police limits here staging a road blockade demanding justice for a fellow villager who was found dead under suspicious condition near Nayahat Bazaar here Tuesday.
Alleging that a 40-year-old Padnav Bhoi was murdered by the goons of a country liquor shop at Nayahat Bazaar here Tuesday over a trivial issue, Bhoi’s family members and his fellow villagers demanded justice for the deceased. “Bhoi had gone to the liquor shop Tuesday afternoon when he picked up a quarrel with the shop owner over a trivial issue. It is none other than the liquor shop owner’s goons who had killed Bhoi in an attempt to settle the score and dumped his body near a canal at Nayahat Bazaar here,” Padnav’s wife Kuni claimed demanding a high-level probe into the matter which, she said, would help unveil the truth.
The villagers demanded registration of a murder case and arrest of the criminals at the earliest.
Meanwhile, vehicles in hundreds remained stranded on either side of Chari Chakk Square from 9am to 11.30am.
The road blockade was, however, removed after Nimapara sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Sarat Mishra, Nimapara inspector in-charge (IIC) Janardan Padhi, Chari Chakk outpost ASI Pramod Sethy, Gop IIC Soumyajit Mishra among others reached the spot and assured the agitators of appropriate action.
“The footage of CCTVs installed near Nayahat Bazaar will be examined and the post-mortem report will be taken into account. And action will follow thereon,” a senior police official assured.
Later in the day, the wife of the deceased approached Nayahat police outpost with a written complaint in this regard, sources said, adding that police claimed to have swung into action.
Notably, Gop police had recovered Bhoi’s body from near a canal at Nayahat Bazaar here Tuesday and sent it to Chari Chakk healthcare facility for autopsy before registering a case (10/19) of unnatural death in this connection.
