Over 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi refugees reside in Odisha: Minister

Bhubaneswar: Over 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi refugees are residing in various districts of Odisha, Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera told the state Assembly Monday.

Replying to a question of Suryabansi Suraj (BJP), the Minister said in total 1,57,432 Bangladeshi refugees are staying in eleven districts of the state.

Giving the details, Behera said 15 refugees are staying in Angul, 75 in Balasore,200 in Bhadrak, 379 in Jajpur, 90 in Kalahandi, 441 in Kendrapara, 4653 in Khurdha, 194 in Koraput, 1,04,233 in Malkangiri, 46,848 in Nabarangpur, and 304 in Rayagada district.

In addition to it 3740 Bangladeshi infiltrators are illegally staying in Baragarh,(2) Bhadrak,(199), Kendrapara (1649), Khordha Bhubaneswar (17) Jagatsinghpur (1112), Malkangiri (655), and Nabarangpur (106), the Minister said.
