Over 100 villages marooned

Bhograi: Though the water level in the Subarnarekha river has receded, many villages under Bhograi, Basta, Jaleswar and Baliapal blocks in Balasore district were flooded Wednesday. Over 100 villages in these blocks were marooned with the administration yet to reach out to the flood-hit people.
76,000 cusecs of water is still being released from Galudihi barrage in Jharkhand while the Subarnarekha flowed at 9.45 metre below the danger mark. Plight of people in these blocks has been worsened. Communication was disrupted as Nachinda-Niapura road, Kusuda-Bhuatentuli, Pantei-Bhusandeswar road, Bhuabandh-Mahagaba road, Katisahi-Kusuda road were submerged under floodwaters.
During the first flood, the test relief embankment from Ullunda to Bhograi lock has partially sunk triggering panic among villagers.
Over a hundred villages were marooned under Bhograi, Baliapal and Jaleswar blocks.
The cut-off villages included Nachinda, Jaladha, Ulluda, Dahamunda, Kharidapippal, Aruhabruti,, Manunagar, Hudapal, Rasalpur, Mohammednagar Patana, Matikhana, Kusuda, Charbatia, Gabagaon, Chirakula, Nilapura, Krushnanagar, Badhia, Putina, Chakaparualia, Katisahi, Madhupur, Kulinda, Priyabag, and Melaka, among others.
