Over 1cr opened PMJDY accounts in state: Jaitley

New Delhi: As many as 1,33,77,032 people have opened accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in Odisha till December 12.

According to the information shared by Finance Ministry, out of 1,33,77,032, at least 97,62,788 accounts have been opened in rural areas of the state. The ministry further said that around Rs 3,759.58 crore is the balance in beneficiaries’ accounts in Odisha.

However, only 1.5 crore PMJDY accounts are operative in the state.

Similarly, a total of 33.55 crore accounts have been opened under PMJDY in the country, out of which 19.86 crore are in rural areas.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, stated that all PMJDY account holders are eligible for availing the overdraft facility if the account is active with regular credit, which could be from Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) or from other source.

He further said that 65.47 lakh accounts have been sanctioned overdraft facility, of which 30.75 lakh account-holders have availed this facility involving an amount of Rs 340.19 crore.

On the initial target set by the Union government, Jaitley said the initial estimated target under PMJDY was to cover 6 crore uncovered rural households and 1.5 crore uncovered urban households with at least one Jan-Dhan account.
