Jajpur: In a big setback to the BJD ahead of elections in the state, more than three hundred party workers of Sukinda Assembly constituency Sunday joined the BJP.
This comes as a big jolt to the ruling party in the Assembly segment. Danagadi block chairperson Lopamudra Nayak and her husband Haladhar Nayak, ZP member Pratap Dhir, MP nominee Prasant Nayak and more than 300 BJD workers joined the saffron party at the party office in Bhubaneswar. This merger of BJD workers has dealt a blow to former MLA Prafulla Ghadai and his son, the sitting MLA Priti Ranjan Ghadai. According to the Ghadais, the section of party workers which joined the BJP is involved in various irregularities. They claimed that this merger will not have any impact on the BJD.
Locals observed that the crossover of so many BJD workers to BJP will create a lot of problems on the ruling party ahead of the elections.
The Assembly segment of Sukinda assumes importance in the state politics due to a large number of labourers engaged in various mining and industrial units.
This constituency has a host of issues related to land accusation, pollution and displacement.
