Bhubaneswar: Continuing the special drive against the trade and smuggling of illicit liquor, the Excise sleuths Saturday seized over 600 litres of ID (illegally distilled) liquor and arrested fi ve persons in that connection, officials said.
In the first case, the Excise sleuths arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Sarbeshwar Sahoo, from Kargil slum near the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) while he was trading ID liquor.
Sources said a total of 550 litres of the liquor was seized during the search of a car which he allegedly used to transport the contraband from Badamba in Athagarh. In subsequent raids at four different sale points of illicit brew in the Capital city, the Excise sleuths nabbed four persons and seized 30 litres of country liquor, and 54 litres of ID liquor. A scooter used to transport the liquor has been seized, sources said, adding that all the accused have been forwarded to court following arrest.
