‘Over 64 L LED street lights installed across country’

New Delhi: Over 64 lakh LED street lights have so far been installed across the country under the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the programme aims to replace 1.34 crore conventional street lights with smart and energy-efficient LED street lights by March next year.

“Under this programme, till date, over 64 lakh LED street lights have been installed, covering 28 states/Union Territories,” Puri said.

The minister said that in order to achieve the target, proposals for replacement of conventional street lights with LED street lights have been submitted to the remaining states and Union Territories.

The Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) was launched by the Centre in January, 2015.

Besides, national and state-level workshops and conferences are organised time-to-time for creating awareness among states and Union Territories for implementation of the SLNP, he said.
