New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind has approved conferment of Padma awards to six eminent personalities from Odisha.
Sudarshan Sahoo, an eminent sculptor from the state, has been selected for Padma Vibhushan in the field of art. Padma Vibhushan—the second-highest civilian award, is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the government announced Monday.
Significantly, five personalities such as Shand. Devi in the field of social work, Purnamasi Jani in the field of art, Rajat Kumar Kar in the field of literature and education, Dr Krishan Mohan Pathi in the field of medicine and Nanda Prusty in the field of literature and education have been selected for Padma Shri awards.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and music legend SP Balasubrahmanyam have been awarded Padma Vibhushan. Celebrated singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has conferred the honour posthumously. He died in a Chennai hospital last year after almost two months of treatment.
Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi and former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, both of whom died last year, have been awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award posthumously. Veteran playback singer KS Chithra has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan as well. The Padma awards were announced Monday evening by the government honouring 119 prominent personalities from various fields.
