Total confusion
The biggest domestic football league of the state – the FAO Football League which was scheduled to start Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack may well be postponed if the venue hosts the T20 India-South Africa tie in October.
The inaugural tie of the league, however, did not take place Wednesday even though it had been announced earlier. The FAO officials are creating more confusion by not sharing information about the fate of the league – whether it will start at a later date or whether it will be scratched completely.
The flip side to the entire story, however, is that the tour programme of South Africa’s visit to India is yet to be officially announced.
“The fate of the league hangs in balance because of the T20 match. We have been informed that the decision of FAO regarding the fate event will be conveyed to us in a couple of days,” stated Amit Behera, coach of Jay Durga Club. “We have come to know that the league may be postponed till October. But we fail to understand why the FAO officials are keeping mum on the issue,” said Sunrise Club secretary Tadit Kumar Rout.
