Panic hits village in Balasore district after 8 goats found dead  

Rupsa:  Panic has set in for the residents of Paschimasimulia village of Gadapada panchayat under this police limits in Balasore district after eight goats were found dead Wednesday morning.

Villagers apprehend it to be the work of an unknown wild animal as the throats and stomachs of the goats have allegedly been ripped off. Wednesday morning five carcasses were found from a nearby farmland while the bodies of the three others are still missing. The goat handlers of the village have informed the forest department, veterinary and Rupsa police station about the incident.

Locals informed that Jhunamani Lenka had tied her goats in the pen Tuesday night. Next morning, she found eight of them missing. After a frantic search by her and her neighbours, five carcasses were found with wound marks all over their bodies in a farmland.

Suspecting a wild animal behind the killings, the villagers immediately intimated the incident to the forest department. They have also urged the district administration to compensate Jhunamani for her loss.

It should be stated here that an unknown wild animal killed nine goats at Jahata village here January 7, 2018. Again March 30, the same year, seven goats were found dead in similar fashion.
