Cuttack: Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi was sworn in as a judge of the Orissa High Court here Monday.
Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda administered the oath to Panigrahi at the old HC complex here around 2pm. HC judges and other dignitaries, including Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain, Special Director General of Police (Intelligence) Satyajit Mohanty, Crime Branch ADG Soumendra Priyadarshi, twin city police commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and DCP Akhilesvar Singh, were present on the occasion, said a source, adding that with Panigrahi’s appointment, the HC now has 14 judges.
Born to Nimai Charan and Mandakini Panigrahi at Barapudugia village under Sadar block in Bolangir, Sanjeeb received his higher education from Rajendra College. He completed his LLB in Sambalpur and LLM in Bolangir.
After completing his LLM, Panigrahi began his career as a lawyer at Orissa High Court. He later practised at the Supreme Court too. Panigrahi was an advocate-on-record in the Supreme Court and handled many cases as counsel for state of Odisha in the top court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended appointment of Panigrahi and judicial officer Bibhu Prasad Routray as judges to Orissa HC October 2019.
The apex court Collegium comprising then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice NV Ramana and Justice SA Bobde had resolved to recommend the appointment.
Panigrahi was appointed as a HC judge after the approval from the President and recommendation of the Ministry of Law and Justice February 7.
