Paradip: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked Odisha DGP and Jagatsinghpur SP to appear before it personally April 24 in relation to the case of a boy who had gone missing from this town, officials informed Saturday.
The NHRC has recently issued notices to DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal and Jagatsinghpur SP Rahul PR and directed them to appear in person with all the reports in the minor boy missing case before it at 11.00 am.
Notably, 14-year-old Preetam Das, son of Pramod Das of Madhuban area in this town had gone missing May 21, last year while playing on the beach with his friends. Police registered a case (No. 16/22) and started an investigation after a complaint was lodged at the Jatadhar Marine Police Station here.
A search operation was launched with Coastguard personnel and local fishermen for three days, but the boy could not be traced. The matter came up before the rights body after Subrat Das, president of a local outfit ‘Nyaya Pain Ladhei’ lodged a complaint before the NHRC.
The NHRC filed a case and issued notices to Rahul four times to submit the probe report. However, when Rahul did not follow the directives of the NHRC, the rights body asked him and Bansal to appear before it.
