Cuttack: In a new twist to the Patnagarh parcel bomb case, the Crime Branch (CB) has decided to use sophisticated forensic technology to gather evidence against prime accused Punjilal Meher.
CB sources said incriminating material seized during investigation will be sent to various national and international forensic labs to corroborate evidence to establish Punjilal’s involvement in the case.
According to reports, an anonymous letter allegedly sent by Punjilal to Bolangir Superintendent of Police will be examined at a scientific lab in Gandhinagar. Punjilal’s fingerprints will also be subjected to ‘Ninhydrin’ test to match the fingerprints in the letter. Besides, a specimen of saliva used to enclose the letter will be sent for DNA test. Sources said, Punjilal’s laptop will be sent for retrieval of essential data, which is believed to have been deleted by the accused after the crime.
This apart, the CCTV footage of 96 seconds duration collected from the DTDC courier office at Raipur will be sent to a lab in Israel to confirm Punjilal’s presence in the video. It is worth mentioning here that the accused had visited the courier agency before sending the parcel through Sky King courier service. Punjial who is on a six-day remand was quizzed by CB officials for the fourth consecutive day Sunday. Punjilal Meher, a lecturer in English in Jyoti Bikash College at Bhainsa (Bolangir), had masterminded and executed the crime following a dispute with deceased Soumya Sekhar’s mother Sanjukta.
