Cuttack: Even as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off the state-wide 15-day awareness drive against the rising graph of child sex abuse in the state, there seems to be no let-up in recurrence of such criminal acts. Three cases of minor girls being sexually abused were reported in the past one week.
A neighbour aged 40 strayed into the house of a minor girl while she was asleep Sunday night and tried to outrage her modesty at Badambadi area here. The girl, aged 11, raised an alarm after which her family members rescued her.
Police registered a case under POSCO Act and launched a manhunt for the accused who was on the run. The girl was produced before the child welfare committee and her statements were recorded. The Badambadi police have formed two teams to arrest the accused.
A meeting was held in the colony to reprimand the man, but he did not turn up. Later, the girl’s family lodged a police complaint.
Similarly, a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at Banki area May 26. She had been to a friend’s house. There, her friend’s relative lured the girl with chocolates and tried to rape her. Police registered a case and arrested the accused.
In another incident, a 15-year-old girl of Niali area was kidnapped by two youths while she went for shopping to a nearby market. Later, the girl was rescued in an unconscious state from the roadside.
The three girls were produced before the CWC Tuesday and their statements were recorded.
