Parents held for poisoning 2 daughters, dumping their bodies in well

Mohana: In a very shocking revelation, police cracked the murder mystery of two sisters, whose bodies were recovered from a well near their house at Chelligada village under R. Udaygiri police limits in Gajapati district and arrested their parents in this connection Monday.

Notably, the duo confessed of poisoning their daughters, including a minor girl and subsequently dumping them in the well to show it as a case of suicide during police interrogation.

The accused duo has been identified as Pramod Achari and his wife, parents of the two girls Kiran Achari (22) and her minor sister Swapna Achari (14).

A case of abatement of suicide was earlier registered in this connection that was later changed to case of murder after the arrival of autopsy report.

It may be noted here that the accused father Pramod Achari had informed the police that both his daughters had committed suicide by jumping into a well near their house two days back.

After getting information, fire personnel and police recovered the bodies and sent it for autopsy. The accused has tried to misled the police by claiming that their daughters had committed suicide after their marriages broke up.

However, police suspected foul play and had launched a further probe into the incident. Further investigation revealed that Kiran was in a relationship with a boy identified as Ganesh Sahoo.

However, Pramod was against the relationship and fixed the girl’s marriage elsewhere. This did not go well with Ganesh, who circulated an obscene video of himself featuring with the girl to her fiancée following which the marriage was called off.

This traumatised the parents who, in a bid to save their honour hatched a plan to eliminate the two girls. As per plan, they first poisoned the two girls in food. Later, they dumped them in the well.

“The parents of the deceased girls have confessed of forcing their daughters to consume poison. Then, they threw both the bodies in the well of the courtyard. A further probe is on. We suspect the involvement of more people,” Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Pradhan said adding that the while the reason of killing the elder girl was because of the obscene video, but the reason of killing the 14-year-old girl still remains a mystery.
