Bhubaneswar: Zumba lessons are fun. They energize and help you feel relaxed. A combination of dance and workouts Zumba is gaining popularity among young fitness freaks, mostly among girls in the city. Youngsters can sweat it out while having fun every day.
Fitness classes are very effective in shedding extra calories and help cardio, muscle conditioning, balancing and flexibility. It also boosts energy and helps a person relax.
Suchismita Sahoo, who has been taking zumba lessons for over 16 months, said she has lost 100 calories after joining the club. “The lessons are effective. They keep me energetic. I carry home awesome impact after exercise classes. I don’t get tired these days. The classes are entertaining. The unique design of mixing dance with workouts helps.”
Astha Chandrika is satisfied with the workout regime as she has been able to minimise her weight. “Zumba helps to maintain weight which every girl desires. Sometimes, I practise the exercises at home to keep myself fresh,” she said, adding she has been attending zumba classes for two years and found it effective in shaping her body.
For Soumya Priyadarshini, zumba classes are a means of keeping her cheerful. She came to know about the classes from her friends before she enrolled herself in a fitness centre at Jaydev Vihar. Soumya said, “My friends were looking fit mentally and physically after attending Zumba classes. I also decided to join the class to shed weight.”
“Within a month, I could see result. It increased cardio and calorie burning and created a perfect shaped body. It has become a habit for me now. I can’t stop a day without attending zumba classes,”she added.
Zumba classes are fun for fitness freak Shakti Prasad Mohapatra. Considering the popularity of workout regime many dance institutes and fitness centres have mushroomed for all age groups in the city such as Kalinga Fitness, Talwalkars and Danim and Blues.
Abhisek Das, who runs a fitness centre, has been offering zumba classes for the three years.
Talking to Orissa POST, Das said, “People get bored after doing same traditional workouts. But after joining Zumba, people start enjoying classes without disappointment. People can lose weight up to four kilograms in a month after attending Zumba classes. Heavy workouts are not necessary for zumba, but participants dance and burn calories. We take Rs 800 per month.”
Around 50 participants including students and professionals attend the classes. Classes are held in the morning and evening. The fitness centre has also scheduled a separate slot for women.
Trainer Phani Das says classes are about 45 minutes. If a person exercises for 45 minutes, he/she can burn 100 calories.
Choreographer and zumba instructor Anupam Nayak has almost created a raze for the fitness movement. He has been teaching zumba classes in Odisha and abroad for six years.
Notably, Zumba, was created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto ‘Beto’ Perez in the 1990s.
Priyanshu Priyadev, another Zumba trainer, said participants don’t feel like they are doing workouts. He said zumba will soon spread across the state.
