Berhampur: A seven-member team of National Medical Commission (NMC) visited Monday the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here to conduct a survey of the infrastructure and other facilities available for 250 seats for MBBS students.
The team after arriving at the hospital conducted verification of facilities. The NMC officials also held discussions with Head of the Department of Urology over opening of postgraduate courses. Earlier, the MKCG authorities had proposed to the NMC for admitting three students for post-graduation in urology. The visiting team members also held discussions over renewal of permission for admission in PG seats in the Anatomy and Mental Health departments.
Reports said that the MBBS seats in the MKCG Medical College were increased in the past. The team members then verified whether the medical college had adequate classrooms, laboratories, and library facilities for 250 students. Team members also checked as to whether sufficient number of teachers is available for the students and whether there are proper hostel facilities for their accommodation. Sources said that the NMC team members expressed satisfaction after checking out the facilities and infrastructure.
Prof Dr Anil Shiba Shankar Rahul of Anatomy department of Telangana Government Medical College, Prof Dr Nitin John of Physiology at AIIMS, Hyderabad, Prof Dr Deboji of Pathology department of Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad, Prof Dr D Sribhushan Raju of Nephrology department at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Prof Dr Shivaling M of Urology department at the Bangalore-based Institute of Nephro-Urology, Dr Deepa Gupta of Anatomy department, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Medical Education Trust and College and Prof Dr N Nageshwar Rao belonging to the Mental Health department, Venkateshwar Medical College at Tirupati were the members of the NMC delegation.
Three members of the team also conducted verification of the available infrastructure for PG seats. Earlier, PG courses had started in the Anatomy and Mental Health departments.
MKCG Medical College superintendent Prof Dr Santosh Kumar Mishra, Principal Dr Abanikanta Mishra and other officials accompanied the NMC team during their visit.
