Bhubaneswar: A chunk of concrete fell off the ceiling at the ticket counter on the premises of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar here Saturday causing a flutter among people standing in the queue to collect tokens.
No causality was reported in the incident as the piece of concrete fell in an empty space of the floor.
However, the panicked patients and visitors started running out following the incident.
Senior officials and director of AIIMS rushed to the spot to review the situation.
Following assessment, technicians said that the portion of ceiling was affected as the knot bolt of that portion had fallen.
The situation was restored and visitors again stood in queue following assurance from the AIIMS authorities.
The incident comes just two days after a wall of the Casualty Trauma Care Unit of the medical institute caved in Thursday.
Students escape as plaster from ceiling falls in classroom
Bhubaneswar: Students had a narrow escape and a major mishap was averted after a chunk of plaster fell off the ceiling of a classroom in a school in the Khandagiri area her, Saturday morning.
The mishap took place at the Satyasai Sevashram Primary School soon after the commencement of the school hours. Though the incident took place while classes were underway, luckily, the chunk didn’t fall on any student or teacher.
Tension gripped the school following the incident and students along with parents staged protest in front of the gate. They demanded repairs on a war footing claiming that the structure has turned into a death trap.
The agitating students and parents were pacified after the Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) Ankita Mohapatra reached the spot and assured them of doing the needful.
The classes of the school would be held inside a room of the Mother’s Public School which is located nearby, assured Mohapatra.
