Bolangir: The Superintendent of Police suspended ASI Anadi Matari for reportedly beating a man, who along with his family members staged a road blockade alleging that his newborn baby was stolen from Patnagarth sub-divisional hospital.
Rudra Tandi (35) of Ghasien village under Patnagarh block and his wife Jayanti Tandi (30) are from Rengali village near Chudapali.
Jayanti had given birth to a baby at Patnagarh sub-divisional hospital March 3 evening.
When her husband and mother-in-law went out of the hospital Wednesday, a woman visited Jayanti and enquired about her health condition.
Later, the woman said she wanted to see the baby and gave Rs. 100 as part of the ritual for seeing the newborn.
Gradually, she became close to Jayanti and started playing with the baby. Later, under the pretext of looking after the newborn, the woman went out of the hospital and fled.
Rudramani immediately filed a complaint at the police station.
He also staged a road blockade along with some family members, demanding the arrest of the accused.
While persuading the agitating family members to lift the road blockade, Matari reportedly lost his cool and thrashed Rudramani. The entire act was caught on the camera.
