Peaceful Christ day celebrations doubtful amid Mallick rally in Kandhamal

Baliguda: While Kandhamal district administration has made elaborate arrangements for a peaceful celebration of Christmas December 25, it has also directed all police stations to hold peace committee meetings with people belonging to different religions and communities.

A district-level peace panel meet was conducted Saturday which was presided over by District Collector who held talks with people of Hindu and Christian communities.

However, at Baliguda a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Lambodar Kanhar, secretary of Kui community.

The meeting was attended by people of the community who came from every nook and corner of Kandhamal.

During the meeting, it was decided that like yesteryears the Kui community will hold a rally to commemorate martyred Khageswar Mallick on his 11th death anniversary following which the rally will reach newly built Kui community centre where the inauguration of the building will be conducted.

Though the district administration is opposing the rally, resentment has started brewing among the Kui people.

“If we face opposition in holding the rally, we will observe Kandhamal bandh December 25,” warned Lambodar Kanhar.
