Bhubaneswar: The state leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Tuesday the Odisha government is delaying relief to many genuine villagers in Fani-affected districts and favouring people close to the ruling BJD.
Odisha BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty and Puri MLA Jayanta Sarangi spoke about the alleged partiality of the State government and district administration in giving assistance to the Fani-affected victims, many of who lost their houses, livelihood and other valuables.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood by Odisha during the super cyclone Fani. He gave grants to Odisha in crore to overcome the damages caused by Fani. However in many areas, people have not received any assistance from the Odisha government,” alleged Samir Mohanty.
Mohanty said that in the Bramhagiri area, fishermen communities were affected by the cyclone. However, only those close to the ruling party in Odisha, got aid.
Jayanta Sarangi, on the other hand said that many genuine victims of Fani have still not any aid. “There are many people affected by Fani in Puri district who despite having their names in the eligible list are yet to get any relief from the government. There are accusations of diverting the central funds to people close to BJD,” pointed out Sarangi.
“There are hundreds of aggrieved people meeting me regularly to apprise me about the lack of relief. There are a lot of disparities in relief work. There are many more aggrieved villagers who are afraid of speaking out fearing adverse actions against them,” added Sarangi.
Sarangi said that in spite of being elected an MLA from the Puri constituency, the district administration has not shared the list of Fani beneficiaries with him. Instead it has been given to BJD functionaries. “I am an elected representative but I did not get the list while the BJD sarpanchs got the names. This is the situation in the state,” Pointed out Sarangi.
