People throng Ganjam village to see man resurrected!

Sorada: His relatives and neighbours had carried his bier to the village cremation ground in a funeral procession and were about to light the pyre when he allegedly resurrected and asked the people where he has been brought to! Sounds weird, but true.

Such an unusual incident took place in tribal dominated Laukhal village under Gopalpur Sashan panchayat of Sorada block in Ganjam district.

52 years old Seemanchal Mallick had gone to the nearby forest tending to his goats Saturday. In the evening, all the animals but Seemanchal returned home. Family members launched a frantic search for him but he remained untraced.

Some of the villagers who had been to the jungle to collect firewood saw a body lying face down. As the news broke, family members of Seemanchal rushed to the jungle and identified the body to be of him.

He was subsequently brought back to the village. Family members and neighbours were mourning over his death. Some of them prepared the bier and tied his body to it. Then the bier was carried to the cremation ground in a funeral procession.

The village has a long standing custom to light the body at the cremation ground towards an end of the village. The tradition was followed accordingly. The pall bearers put down the bier and it was when the body was about to be lit, they felt Seemanchal was breathing. He asked the men where he has been brought.

From the very spot, he was rushed to the nearby government hospital where the doctors immediately attended to him following which he got up and sat on his own on the bed.

The village, that was mourning the loss of a member moments ago, could be seen celebrating Seemanchal’s resurrection. Villagers from nearby villages are making a beeline to have a glimpse of Seemnachal after the news broke. For them, he is no longer as an ordinary man as they knew.  They keep saying Seemanchal has returned from ‘Yamlok’ (the heavenly abode).
