Bhadrak: Even as elections drew closer, people of four villages in Todagan panchayat under Bhandaripokhari constituency in Bhadrak were upset over the bad shape of a road and poor connectivity in their area.
They warned of boycotting the polls in coming elections if things are not set right. Reports said, the 5-km road from Baradeswar to Kenduapada has been in bad shape, but the administration has not repaired it.
Over 15,000 people in eight villages like Todagan, Kenduapada, Patuli and Naguan commute on the road on a daily basis.
They said that in case of fire disasters, fire tenders fail to have access to the villages due to deplorable condition of the road.
In rainy season, school children and people face a lot of commuting problems while negotiating on mud and slush.
They pointed out that two people had died in accidents two days ago. Patients are carried on cots to hospitals, said Jyotibikash Pahi of Kenduapada.
People alleged that MLAs being elected never pay heed to the commuting problems.
They had drawn the attention of the block administration and the rural development department to the mess, but no action has been taken.
The villagers said that it is the right time to boycott polls. People of four villages got together and discussed the issue. They decided to boycott polls as a weapon to pressurize people’s representatives.
BD Rebika Bilung said that DRDA had been proposed for the renovation of the road. The rural development department will look after the work he added.
