Bhawanipatna: The healthcare services at 11 primary health centres (PHC) in Kalahandi district have been affected by the shortage of doctors.
The pharmacists are taking the responsibility of doctors here.
According to reports, the state government’s Sulabh Yojana in the district has been adversely affected after doctors went away citing different reasons.
While the district headquarters hospital (DHH) is situated at Bhawanipatna, a health centre is near Dharmagarh. Similarly, there are 13 community health centres at different blocks and 39 primary health centres in gram panchayats.
Currently, more than 75 posts of doctors are lying vacant at several hospitals in the district.
The patients coming to these health centres were compelled to consult the pharmacists.
Sources said, the doctors skip their hospital duty to run private clinics.
Although the health centres are fully dependent on 105 pharmacists, the state government is yet to consider their longstanding demands of regularising their job, hike in grade pay and salary increment.
