Physically challenged woman raped in Mayurbhanj, accused arrested

Baripada:  A physically challenged woman was allegedly raped by a man in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district and the accused was arrested Sunday, police said.

The 19-year-old deaf and dumb woman was forcibly taken into a forest near Kathachua village and allegedly raped by the man, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Udala, Swapna Ranjan Mohapatra said.

Though the incident took place July 31, the mother of the rape survivor lodged an FIR Saturday after which the police swung into action, he said.

A hunt was launched and accused Babuli Bodra (25) was arrested Sunday on charges of committing rape and then abandoning the woman before escaping, police said.

The woman was alone in the house when the accused took her forcibly to the nearby forest and committed the crime, they said.

Investigation into the incident is in progress and both the survivor and the accused are being medically examined, they said.
