Picture taken inside Puri Jagannath temple appear on social media, again

Puri: Despite a ban on entry of mobile phones by non-servitors inside Puri Jagannath temple premises, a picture depicting a young man talking on a mobile phone inside the temple surfaced on social media Saturday.

In the picture, the yet-to-be-identified man can be seen using a mobile phone while standing on Chahani Mandap inside the Jagannath temple premises where phones and cameras are prohibited. This essentially goes on to prove that people manage to sneak in their phones defying the ban – a clear violation of the temple security.

It should be noted here that similar incidents keep surfacing at regular intervals; however, the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) is yet to be successful in enforcing the bans it ordered.

Local residents said that there are well-visible notice boards at all four entrances of the temple, making people aware of the ban. Metal detectors and temple police are also expected to help scanning people against sneaking in such devices.

That said, laxity in the present security arrangements has meant that the security of the temple is being exposed to risk time and again.
