Inside pictures of Puri Jagannath Temple go viral again

Puri:  Several pictures of Puri Jagannath temple interior have once again gone viral on social media, exposing the poor security arrangements at 12th century shrine.

Puri Police Monday arrested a person for allegedly clicking a photograph at Ananda Bazaar inside the Shree Jagannath temple premises and spreading it on the internet.

The accused has been identified as Debashis Singh of Badasankha area in Puri district, a source in the police said.

According to an FIR lodged at the Singhadwara police station by a devotee identified as Jitendra Kumar Sahoo Sunday, police have registered a complaint under sections 30(A)(H)(C) of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act 1954, 295-A of the IPC, 60 of the Information Technology Act 2000, and 30 of the Ancient Monument and Arch Sites and Remains Act 1958.

“A case was registered at the Singhadwara police station Monday against a person for carrying a mobile phone inside the temple which is prohibited. We have arrested the person who had used the image as his status (profile) picture on his WhatsApp account. Sri Mandir administration had registered an FIR in this regard. We are interrogating that person and he will be forwarded to court soon,” Puri superintendent of police Umashankar Das said.
