Cuttack: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Orissa High Court here Thursday opposing the reappointment of retired employees in government and non-government agencies.
Petitioner Bhaskar Barik has made state Chief Secretary and Labour and Employment department secretary as parties to the case.
The petitioner urged the HC to direct the state government to refrain from reappointing retired employees and create employment opportunities for the youths.
In his petition, Barik claimed that many educated youths in the state are facing problems to get employment opportunities but the state government and many private entities are reappointing retired staff.
The petitioner informed the court that some educated youths are indulging in crimes due to absence of employment opportunities. He also cited a World Bank report that claimed very low employment generation in India against a burgeoning labour force.
The petitioner told the court that there is huge scope for employment in government agencies and public sector units (PSUs). But, lack of political will and faulty employment policy are the main hindrances to provide jobs to educated youths in state.
