Plan to shut school on border area called off

Bhograi:  With intervention of Bhograi MLA Ananta Das, the state government’s plan to shut an Odia medium school on bordering area in Balasore has been called off. This has brought relief to the people of Bhograi.

Reports said, a few days ago, the school and mass education department had intimated the district education officer to shut Upula Primary School under this block, citing poor enrolment of students.

It was part of the school and mass education department’s plan to close down some Odia medium schools on the state borders and outside.

Immediately after the notification, people of Bhograi had appealed to the school and mass education department, the minister and the local MLA to intervene in the issue.

They said that these schools have been promoting Odia language in those areas while the state government has given much importance to promotion and protection of the language.

The department has sent a notice in this regard through the block education officer to the school.

This has infuriated the people of Bhograi area who took up the issue with local MLA Ananta das.

Meanwhile, Das took up the issue with the district education officer, the secretary and the minister of the school and mass education department.

Das said, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Das made it clear that the school will not be shut down.

The decision was intimated to district education officer Pramod Kumar Sarangi.

In an order, BEO Kalendi Soren was asked not to close the school.
