Plus II student’s suicide case takes a new twist

Badamba:  In a new twist to the alleged suicide of a Plus –II student at a Bidharpur based private college under Badamba block of Cuttack district, the deceased’s father Monday afternoon lodged a complaint with Maniabandh police outpost alleging his son has been murdered.

According to the complaint, Tapas Samal — a resident of Garilo village under Balami police limits in Dhenkanal district — got his son Suryakant admitted to the private college this year. He had been staying at the college hostel for two months. While everything was going perfect with Suryakant, the family was Sunday informed by the college authority that their son had committed suicide.

On hearing this, family members reached the college and after taking stock of the situation lodged a complaint at the outpost, alleging murder.

Acting on the complaint, Maniabandh and Badamba police reached the spot and got the postmortem conducted before handing over the body to the family.

According to the college authorities, the student committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room.

When asked, inspector-in-charge Gyanaranjan Mishra said it is too early to reach a conclusion. “We have booked a murder case on the basis of the complaint lodged by Suryakant’s father. Our investigation and the postmortem report will throw light on the cause of death,” he added.

Police have seized a suicide note from the room and are verifying it to ascertain if the note was written by the deceased himself.
