Ganjam: A day after houses of five fishermen in seaside Podampeta in this district were washed away by tidal waves, block development officer Jyoti Shankar Ray and tehsildar Abani Kumar Sahu visited the village and took stock of the situation Wednesday.
Rai assured the fishermen that those who have been left out of cyclone resilient houses under the Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP) will be provided housing units under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY).
Directed by MLA Priyanshu Pradhan, the two officers visited the village and enquired about the condition of the affected fishermen. Ray said the administration aims to include over 23 fishermen families left out of ODRP project in BPGY.
About 120 fishermen families live in the sea erosion prone village. Out of them, 15 families have not got cyclone resilient houses under the ODRP scheme.
The affected families led by sarpanch Dillip Chhotray had met Ray August 17 and submitted a memorandum to him. However, the administration has not taken a call on their demands, the victims said.
The villagers feared that with the sea always remaining turbulent, 10 more houses near the coast might soon get washed away by waves.
The administration had earlier shifted some villagers to a new place and renamed it as New Podampeta in 2015.
