Bhubaneswar: Eminent poet and Jnanpith awardee Dr Sitakant Mahapatra has unveiled novel ‘Baman Arzee’ at a glittering function at Bakul Foundation in the city Sunday evening.
This novel was originally authored in English by Chandrahas Choudhury under title ‘Arzee the Dwarf’ and translated into Odia by his mother Sindhubala Choudhury.
Releasing the book Mahapatra reviewed the broad outlook of the book and read out a portion of the English fiction and its transcreation into Odia to the delight of the audience.
Welcoming the writers, poet Manu Dash and publisher of Dhauli Books, a pan Indian publishing enterprise in Bhubaneswar, outlined the genesis and objective of the publishing house and wished that the fraternity of writers would appreciate quality writings and accept it beyond the boundaries of Odia language.
Chandrahas Chaudhury and his mother and translator of the book, Sindhubala Choudhury read out parts of the novel and engaged the elite audience in a freewheeling discussion about the process of translating the novel into Odia language.
A lively interactive literary criticism emerged at the public forum with the writer and translator.
Sujit Mohapatra, founder of Bakul Foundation, proposed a vote of thanks for the elite gathering.
